Your Support Gives EXP Graduating Seniors and Alumni Hope for the Future
Earlier this week, we elicited some very bright smiles among the 24 EXP students and alumni who have been selected to each receive a college-career scholarship of $1,000. This would not have been possible without support from generous donors, like you! Their hard-won achievements deserve to be celebrated, both for persevering through this difficult past year and showing determination to succeed in school, career, and life.
For our graduating seniors and alumni, your support gives them hope for the future.
Having gained confidence through participating in the EXP Internship Program, soon after graduating from Phineas Banning High School, Emily Esquivias landed a college internship at an elementary school which led her to discover her career path as an educator. "Thanks to EXP, I now know the experience will help me discover more opportunities and continue gaining skills and grow not only in my career life but my livelihood in general," she said.
However, the path to her dream career was not an easy one for Emily. She almost gave up her CSU Dominguez Hills education this past year as she struggled to work two jobs to pay for her education.
“There have been many times where I wanted to quit school, but then I realize I have come so far and continue to learn things in life and in school every day that help sculpt me to be the person I am today,” said Emily. “I learned that hard work is not a price I have to pay, but it is hard work that I myself am achieving that is going to help me reach my goals and opportunities.”
