Jasmine Overcomes Insecurities and Finds Her Voice
Jasmine didn't have the confidence she has now. This EXP alumna Class of 2019 was one of the "quiet ones", not because she was shy but because she felt insecure about her capabilities. She doubted herself and so she didn't want to talk about herself.
A part of the ESET (Environmental Science, Engineering and Technology) academy at Carson High School, Jasmine participated in EXP programs including the inaugural Women in STEM Career Day, GPS Your Future™ career exploration day, and completed career preparation workshops. For her summer internship, she worked for the development team at EXP.
Guest speakers inspired her and industry mentors encouraged her to find her passion. The workshops taught her to communicate and how to showcase herself professionally. Her internship reinforced her skills and confidence. Most importantly, she learned to trust and believe in herself.
"EXP helped me overcome my insecurities by showing me what it’s like to be professional and develop self-confidence by visualizing every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow," said Jasmine. "As a result, I have become a bold, fearless and powerful young adult, who is able to take on any challenge life throws my way."
Jasmine graduated in 2019 with a scholarship from EXP, and is now attending El Camino College, focusing on Environmental Science. When her schedule allows, she returns to volunteer at EXP events.
Her success also paves the way for her younger sisters to follow, "They now know that higher education and good-paying job are not out of reach."
